Hailstones- An interesting mythology among Kericho residents.

The kenyan metrological department did warn us of heavy rains in the coming weeks, but I guess we didn't expect it to be this soon or better yet to be hailstones.
Nonetheless it is here with us and we will have to prepare for more cold times ahead, and in the wake of Corona virus pandemic, Kericho residents today witnessed a heavy downpour accompanied by hailstones, for most people who remained indoors following the viral awareness of 'stay at home' campaign were left watching from their windows or maybe they were even a sleep ,but for me l was in town, you know, not all employees have the luxury of being cosy at home.
Hailstones for me brings childhood memories closer, l remember back in the day,the late 90s or early 2000s, our parents were  always sleeping when it rains ,so did we -only that we pretended to be a sleep and then later tip toe outside to catch hailstones and eat them, roll them into balls and compete on who can hold it longer or put them on each other's back, l still cannot fathom how we never got sick ,well we grew up all the same.
On my way to the house l saw this  at my caretaker's and thought to myself 'woooow so cool,' but according to  the people of the South Rift -Kericho to be specific, they believe hailstones at the door or in a tea plantation site means the owner does not pay tithes to God, he/she is selfish and awaits destruction of the produce.
I am sure there are a thousand explainable reasons why hailstones can gather at your door step for example, the typography of the land can push them to a lower surface among others. I would love to get your views on hailstones, what your community beliefs in or what you have heard so far. All in all we respect everybody's beliefs. For me it will just remain a beautiful childhood memory.

  3. I wouldn't say its the owner doesn't pay the tithes. Its the topology for God's sake. This is quite an interesting article so to say, brings back all the memories and I must say the hailstones were sweet those days. Lol
